I am very heartened by the strong progress made by the Tax Academy since it was established in August 2006. The Academy aims to develop Singapore as a regional tax hub through its professional development programmes, seminars and conferences targeted at tax officials and practitioners from the region. We will continue to expand and deepen our suite of international tax training programmes to create opportunities for tax professionals from both Singapore and the region to congregate in Singapore for the exchange of tax knowledge.
In any race, what matters is the quality of the runners. Likewise for the tax profession, we need people with the knowledge, experience and the ability to go into the breadth and depth of tax issues, especially with Singapore being a global hub for businesses and investments. Tax Academy will continue to raise the level of professional competency and to be the catalyst for the development of a vibrant tax community in Singapore and beyond.
