About the Course
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is changing how professionals search for information, organise evidence, analyse business models, review documents, build assumptions and prepare technical analysis. For professionals working with intellectual property, valuation and tax, AI can be a useful tool to support research, issue-spotting and decision-making. However, its usefulness depends on how clearly questions are framed, how outputs are reviewed, and how professional judgement is applied.
This half-day course is designed to give participants a broad but practical understanding of how AI can be used in IP analysis, valuation modelling and tax analysis, while also highlighting limitations such as hallucinations, weak assumptions, and other AI-related risks.
A. AI Applications for IP Analysis
AI is reshaping how organisations analyse intellectual property and other intangible assets, enabling faster and deeper insights to support innovation and business decision-making. This session will explore how AI is transforming activities such as IP landscaping, technology scouting, competitor analysis, patent portfolio assessment and due diligence. Through practical examples, the speaker will discuss how AI can help professionals identify patterns, connect disparate information and uncover commercially relevant insights from large volumes of IP and innovation data. The session will also examine how these insights can support downstream activities such as valuation, transactions and tax, while highlighting the importance of human expertise in interpreting AI outputs, validating findings and managing legal and commercial risks.
B. AI Applications for Valuation Modelling
This session focuses on how AI can support valuation work, particularly for intangible assets where outcomes depend heavily on assumptions. AI can assist in supporting research, structuring and testing assumptions, generating sensitivity scenarios, and checking the consistency of valuation narratives. The emphasis will be on using AI to improve the quality of analysis, for example, by helping practitioners challenge assumptions and identify gaps or inconsistencies, rather than relying on it to produce valuations. We will also highlight the importance of ensuring that the valuation process and outputs remain aligned with established standards such as International Valuation Standards.
C. AI Applications for Tax and Transfer Pricing
This session explores how AI can support tax and transfer pricing work, where analysis often involves large volumes of information. AI can assist with tax computation preparation and routine compliance checks, such as identifying inconsistencies across figures and cross-checking supporting schedules and documentation. In addition, AI can be used to support transfer pricing and benchmarking analysis (e.g., in intangible asset valuations). A key point to emphasise is that AI is a support tool that can help improve efficiency but it does not determine tax positions and cannot replace professional judgement.
