AI Applications for IP, Valuation and Tax
29 October 2026
The Institute of Valuers and Appraisers Singapore (IVAS), in collaboration with Tax Academy of Singapore (TA) and the Intellectual Property Office of Singapore (IPOS), organised the workshop AI Applications for IP, Valuation and Tax on 29 October 2026 as an associated event of IP Week Singapore 2026.
The workshop brought together professionals to explore the applications of artificial intelligence (AI) across intellectual property, valuation and tax, with a focus on its practical uses, limitations and responsible application in professional practice.
As AI continues to reshape the way professionals work, its applications are increasingly extending to areas such as information research, document review, business analysis and technical assessments. For professionals working across intellectual property, valuation and taxation, AI presents opportunities to support more efficient analysis and decision-making. At the same time, understanding its limitations and maintaining sound professional judgement remain essential to ensuring the reliability and quality of professional work.

Exploring AI Applications Across Different Professional Fields
The workshop examined how AI can support professionals across three interconnected areas: intellectual property (IP), valuation, and tax and transfer pricing.
In the area of intellectual property, the session explored how AI can support IP landscaping, technology scouting, competitor analysis, patent portfolio assessment and due diligence. By helping professionals identify patterns and analyse large volumes of information, AI can support the assessment of intellectual property and intangible assets, as well as provide insights that inform business and commercial decisions.
The valuation segment examined how AI can assist practitioners in researching and testing assumptions, developing sensitivity scenarios and reviewing the consistency of valuation analysis. Particular emphasis was placed on using AI to challenge assumptions and identify potential gaps or inconsistencies, rather than relying on it to generate valuations. The importance of maintaining sound valuation methodologies and alignment with established standards, including the International Valuation Standards, was also highlighted.
The tax and transfer pricing segment explored how AI can support activities such as tax computation preparation, compliance checks, document reviews and benchmarking analysis. These applications demonstrate the potential of AI to assist with information-intensive tasks and improve efficiency. However, AI remains a supporting tool and cannot independently determine tax positions or replace the professional judgement required in tax analysis and advisory work.
Insights from Industry Practitioners

From left to right: Ms Elis Tan, Mr Mun Siong Yoong, Mr Ken Kong
Bringing together perspectives from the three professional fields, the workshop featured Mr Ken Kong, Head of Commercial at Patsnap; Mr Mun Siong Yoong, CVA, Founder and CEO of Verdict™ | VALLARIS™; and Ms Elis Tan, Executive Director of BDO Tax Advisory Pte Ltd.
Through their respective presentations, the speakers shared insights into how AI is being applied within their areas of expertise. Their contributions provided participants with a broader perspective on the opportunities that emerging technologies present, while highlighting the practical considerations involved in incorporating AI into existing professional workflows.
An important theme throughout the workshop was the need to apply AI responsibly. While AI can support research, analysis and decision-making, its outputs may be affected by limitations such as hallucinations and weak assumptions. Professionals must therefore continue to exercise sound judgement, validate AI-generated outputs and ensure that their analysis is supported by reliable information and appropriate technical expertise.

Fostering Cross-Disciplinary Learning and Collaboration
The workshop highlighted the growing intersection between intellectual property, valuation and taxation, particularly as businesses increasingly recognise the importance of intangible assets in creating and sustaining commercial value. Understanding how these areas interact is important in supporting business decisions involving the development, valuation and commercialisation of intellectual property.
The collaboration between IVAS, Tax Academy of Singapore and IPOS provided a platform for professionals from different disciplines to exchange knowledge and explore the role of emerging technologies in their respective fields. Held as an associated event of IP Week Singapore 2026, the workshop also contributed to broader discussions on innovation, intellectual property and the evolving role of technology in professional practice.
Tax Academy of Singapore extends its appreciation to IVAS and IPOS for their collaboration, the speakers for sharing their expertise and insights, and all participants for joining the workshop. Through continued cross-disciplinary partnerships and knowledge-sharing initiatives, Tax Academy remains committed to supporting professionals in navigating emerging technologies and strengthening capabilities across the tax and wider professional community.
